TESSELLATE
Vancouver's Cultural and Linguistic Living-Learning Community
Ball State University | Professor Robert Koester | Spring 2016 | ASCA National Steel Competition 3rd Place
Vancouver’s Cultural and Linguistic Living- Learning Community brings social groups together in interdependence and celebrates Vancouver’s ethnic diversity. While English and French are Vancouver’s official languages, 45% percent of the population was born speaking other languages. The Living- Learning Community challenges the separation of different social groups with the concept of a tessellation. In a tessellation, each independent part, brought together in an artful composition, makes the whole more complete.
Students around the globe can immerse themselves in collaborative programs of languages and art. Additionally, with a large atrium space and outdoor plaza to gather, the public is encouraged to engage themselves in the community.
