SANCTITY
Multi-use Woodland Gathering Space
Ball State University | Professor Ana deBrea | Fall 2015

A sanctuary nestled in the woods explores the concept of redefining space to fit program. The structure’s original layout is rooted to a traditional church plan, but a unique roof introduces folds that form a dynamic entrance into the surrounding nature.  On the South, the roof slopes down to enclose the space.  On the North, the roof slopes up to expand the waterfront view.

By varying the way wooden planks are cut, panels can be fit together or can rotate outward to form movable partitions. Exterior doors can expose the landscape, and interior partitions can be adjusted to scale down the size of the room.
