LUMBERJACK PROMENADE
Indiana Hardwood Sawmill & Interpretive Center
Ball State University | Professor Daniel Woodfin | Spring 2015

To celebrate the fabrication of hardwood, a radial promenade links an exposition lobby, museum, sawmill, and educational workshops.  Guests  can experience the sights and sounds of a sawmill while learning about hardwood's history. Additionally, events such as Lumberjack competitions or live presentations can be held in the site's courtyard to encourage public interest in the process.

In the buildings' interiors, truss systems expose wood as a structural resource. High windows allow guests to view into the canopy of the forest from underneath the elegant integrity of the roof. The buildings form a progression of spaces, which is connected by the trellised promenade.  This site design creates a santuary in which to experience the raw beauty and function of wood.
